Three universities in Hanoi and HCMC have made it to the 2021 top 500 emerging economies university rankings put out by Times Higher Education.

In the rankings issued on Tuesday the Vietnam National University in Hanoi was ranked 251-300, while the Hanoi University of Science and Technology was placed at 351-400 and the Vietnam National University in HCMC at 401-500.

The Vietnam National University in Hanoi dropped from 201-250 in 2020 and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology from 251-300.

The Vietnam National University in HCMC retained its ranking from last year.

The ranking by THE, a British provider of higher education data, ranks schools based on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

This year 606 universities from 48 countries and territories made the cut, up from 533 last year.

Emerging economies are those classified by the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) as "advanced emerging", "secondary emerging" or "frontier."
