German Ambassador to Thailand Georg Schmidt has agreed to support the Education Ministry's efforts to strengthen vocational training to meet demand in the labour market, according to Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan.
Speaking about a recent meeting with the German ambassador to Thailand, Mr Nathapol said the ambassador is pleased to join hands with the ministry in developing vocational education and exchanging good practices in its management.
The cooperation venture will include curricular development to produce personnel to meet the needs of the labour market. Germany is also willing to support apprenticeship programmes for Thai students in Germany, he said.
According to Mr Nataphol, Germany's vocational education and training system is highly recognised and it is a key driver of national development.
Mr Nathapol said both countries have expanded cooperation in the area of vocational education through various schemes. For example, the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce has recruited Thai students for an apprenticeship programme at German firms in Thailand.
He said the German ambassador has also agreed to promote the learning of German language through the Goethe-Institut Thailand.
"The ambassador is also pleased to support German language learning for Thai teachers and students and pursue projects with the Office of the Basic Education Commission to help Thai learners improve German language skills," he said.
According to Mr Nataphol, the ambassador has also agreed to intensify cooperation in promoting science to youngsters and exchange ideas for the development of history textbooks which better reflect the multicultural society we live in.
